Rotarian of the Day Bob Sonnhalter speaking about the history of calzones
Special calzone from Flavor Chef just for the head table

In addition to being All Saints Day, November 1 is National Calzone Day.  Bob Sonnhalter was Rotarian of the Day and gave a bit of history for the calzone and how it earned a national day.  These half-moons of goodness are thought to have started in Naples and were designed to be eaten on the go. Bob said that calzone roughly translates to “pants legs” and are stuffed with traditional pizza fillings. In 2016 Minsky’s restaurant in Kansas City was successful in their petition to get a national day for calzones on the National Day Calendar, and if you find yourself at Minsky’s you can order their Deluxe Loaded Lobster and Bacon calzone.  Sitting at the front table had its benefits on November 1- Flavor Chef brought us our own calzone!
