Congratulations to Laura Williamson, our newest Blue Badger.  Laura moved to the Del Mar area last September from Tacoma, Washington, where she chaired the membership and speakers committees for the Tacoma North Rotary Club.  Laura helped raise the three children of her late sister, Danielle, and when her nephew moved to San Diego to pursue engineering studies, she relocated to be nearer to him and his two sisters.  After having all three kids help with so many Rotary projects, she was delighted when her nephew expressed his desire to join Rotary- he’s now attending Golden Triangle meetings, which fit better with his school schedule.

Laura began looking for a new Rotary club shortly after arriving in San Diego and she was surprised to learn that there were more than 60 clubs in the area!  A chance encounter over a salad at Piatti restaurant in La Jolla led to an introduction to Del Mar Rotarian Janice Kurth, then District Governor.  After joining Del Mar Rotarians at their annual Del Mar Race Track outing and a holiday party at Treasurer Lanh Tran’s Toys for Tots event at First Republic Bank in Del Mar, she felt that the Del Mar Rotary was the right club for her. Her fellow Del Mar Rotarian, Blake Johnson, who is Development Director for the Boys & Girls Club of San Dieguito, even connected her with her current position as Supervisor of After-School programs at the Boys & Girls Club Allred Branch in Carmel Valley.

Laura has already been a very active member of the club, and we’re delighted to have her!
