More transitional sleeping cottages for refugees who need a safe space to live as they integrate into the community are sprouting up at Church of the Brethren. For this round, the cottages will be built and help is needed for trim and finish work.  Come for a few hours, or for the whole day, whichever fits your schedule.

As you may recall, these cottages provide an interim step toward permanent housing, with wrap-around social services to support the journey.  Residents have a bed, refrigerator, toaster oven, and heater, and a lockable door (communal bathroom facilities are available on site). Cottage users typically stay fewer than 120 days.

The cottages are at Church of the Brethren, 3850 Westgate Place, San Diego, just east of Balboa Park. This project is a partnership between Casas de Luz and St. James Mission Circle a social action program of the St. James-St. Leo Catholic Community in Solana Beach, as part of their Peace Village refugee resettlement program.

This project is fun and all skill levels are invited to participate.  You'll be able to jump in immediately and enjoy some good food. Bring GLOVES, a wide-brim hat and sunscreen.

Dale Burchby (858.692.6802; dale.burchby@gmail.com) is coordinating the project.
