Christina Meeker was the program speaker on January 28 discussing the non profit organization Words Alive.
"We believe that if you value reading and understand its fundamental connection to all aspects of your life, you will thrive as a lifelong learner, ready to transform your community.  Since 1999, we have focused on bridging the literacy gap among children from low-income households and at-risk youth—a gap in interest, access, and achievement.  Beyond just putting a book in their hands, we help them understand that reading is a tool that opens doors in their future. Through Early Literacy Services, Teen Services, Community Programs and the addition of the Rolling Readers program, we serve 8,000 children, youth and families throughout San Diego County each month."
