Our auctioneer for the Soiree, Steve Hamann, gave our members suggestions of what items are best sellers at either a silent or verbal auction.  “Booze” sells the best!  San Diego is known for its craft beer industry.  “Growlers”, those large amber refillable bottles, are very popular with breweries.  They bring the customer back again and again to refill the bottles.  Wine is a good seller too.  “Opportunity” is a good item that doesn’t cost much to give.  If you have season tickets or special access to something, consider putting it up for auction.  In conjunction with this idea, hosting a party is great.  For example, an auction item could be several sports tickets to include a gourmet tailgate party or a catered dinner at a spectacular location.  Steve even mentioned a party at a new surgical suite went for big money.  Guests got surgical gown, caps, booties, etc to enhance the event.  Try not to spend money for the item you donate as typically it only gets a return of less than 50% at an auction.
